Instagram Collaborations: How to Collaborate (Co-Author) on a Post with Another Instagram Account

What Are Instagram Collaborations/Collabs?

Instagram Collaborations, or Collabs, is a feature that allows two users to co-author a single post or Reel. When you use Instagram’s Collaborations feature, you “Invite Collaborator” and send them an invitation, and wait for them to accept. Once accepted, the post will appear on both profiles, allowing it to reach both audiences and combine likes, comments, and engagement in one shared post.

How do you collaborate on a post with another Instagram account? 

The Instagram Collabs feature works in two steps. First, you add the person you want to collaborate with on Nuelink. Then, they need to accept the collaboration for the post to show up on both your profiles.

To do this, go to the Nuelink Post Editor, choose your Instagram account, and type “@” followed by the collaborator’s full Instagram username. Press “Enter” and they’ll get an invitation. Once they accept, the post will appear on both accounts.

How do you invite a collaborator to your post via Nuelink?

1. Log in to your Nuelink account, and click on “Create Post” at the top left side.

2. Select your scheduling collection, and at least one Instagram account.

3. Create your post by selecting your post type, and adding your media, and caption. Make sure the post format is compatible with Instagram.

4. Turn on the “Instagram Collaborators” toggle, and type @ followed by their username, make sure it’s written correctly, you can copy and paste it to avoid any typos, and then hit “Enter” to save. By the way, you can add 3 collaborators on an Instagram post. 

Note: Make sure the collaborator allows collabs and tags to avoid any errors.

5. Schedule your post as you see fit, add it to your queue, or post now.

How Can Collaborator(s) Accept the Invite on Instagram?

1. Open the Instagram App, log in to the account invited to the collaboration post, and click on Notifications.

2. Click on the invite notification, which should be something like “username invited you to collaborate on a post”.

3. Here you will find the collaborative post, with the invite message below.  

4. Click on “Review” to check the collab invitation.

5. Tap on “Accept” to confirm the collaboration, to let the post appear on both profiles. 

6. Once the invitation is accepted, the collaboration is confirmed, and the post appears on both profiles.

Why is my collaboration post not working? 

To avoid errors with collabs, you need to make sure to write the collaborator's username correctly e.g. @nuelinkapp in the box, and hit “Enter” to confirm. Make sure your collaborator allows tags and collaborations.

Why did my post get published without the collaboration?

You might not be able to tag someone for a few reasons:

• Tagging Settings: The person may have chosen who can tag them, and you might not be on that list.
• Blocked Accounts: If you have blocked each other, you can't tag each other.
• Account Type: If the account you're trying to tag is a business or creator account, they might have rules that prevent certain users from tagging them.

Can collaborate on a post with a private account?  

Yes, but when a private account accepts an invite to collaborate, their username will appear on the post, but accounts that want to follow the private account will still need to send a request.

What are the Instagram posts that I can collaborate on? 

You can collaborate on Reels, Carousels, and Image posts, but you can’t collaborate on Stories.

How are Collabs different from tagging or mentions?

If someone tags or mentions you in a photo or video, that photo or video won't be shared with your followers. If you collaborate on a post, that post will be shared with your followers.
