How to Set Up Medium Automation to Auto-Post to Social Media

This guide shows you how to set up Medium automation in Nuelink. Once it's set up, every new article you publish on Medium automatically turns into a social media post, so your followers hear about it without any extra work from you.

Note: To follow this guide, you'll need a Nuelink account, at least one connected social media channel, and the link to your Medium profile or publication.

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Go to Automations in the left sidebar. Click the Add Automation button in the top-right corner.

3. Find and select Medium from the list of sources, then click Add Automation.

4. Paste your Medium Link into the field at the top. This can be your Medium profile (like https://medium.com/@username) or your blog URL (like https://website.com/blog).

5. Set up your Post Caption. This is the text that goes out with each post. You can write your own, and you can add more than one version. To insert each article's details automatically, use these variables: {{title}}, {{link}}, {{website}}, {{website_title}}, and {{website_description}}. (Optional) Turn on AI captions to let Nuelink write a caption for each article. Just write a short prompt describing what you want, and the AI creates the caption for you. (Optional) Click Add Fallback Caption to set a backup caption. Nuelink uses it if your main caption can't be filled in.

7. (Optional) Add a Post title. This is used on YouTube, Pinterest, and Facebook videos. You can leave it as {{title}} to use each article's title.

8. (Optional) Turn on Auto thread long captions to split long captions into a thread on X, Threads, Mastodon, and Bluesky.

9. Under Choose post format, pick how your articles are shared, as a Link Post or an Image Post.

10. Choose which articles to bring in. Importing existing Medium posts as well as future ones is on by default. Turn it off to import only new articles from now on. When it's on, set the Number of Posts to Import (any value between 1 and 10).

11. (Optional) Turn on Mark the posts as draft for later review to save each imported post as a draft, so you can check and edit it before it goes live.

12. (Optional) Turn on Publish Immediately. Nuelink checks hourly, publishes your latest post right away, and queues the rest.

13. (Optional) Turn on Send a follow-up comment to add an automatic first comment to each post, handy for dropping a link or a call to action. Write your comment (you can use the same variables as your caption), then set the Condition to choose when it's added, such as a number of minutes after publishing.

14. (Optional) Turn on Use smart conditions to let Nuelink decide the best moment to add your follow-up comment.

15. Choose your collection. Creating a new collection for this automation is on by default, so Nuelink makes a fresh collection for your Medium posts. To use a collection you already have, turn this off and pick one from the list.

16. (Optional) Open Advanced Options to fine-tune a few more settings:

Check frequency: how often Nuelink looks for new posts. The default is Every 24 Hours.

Auto-clean links: removes UTM and tracking bits from links before posting. Applies to the {{link}} shortcode only.

Use a custom user agent: lets Nuelink's requests use a custom identifier, which helps when a source blocks default crawlers.

17. Click Add Medium Automation to finish.

That's it! You're all set! Nuelink now imports your Medium articles and checks your blog for new ones. Each new article is added to your collection, ready to share across your connected channels.

Setting Up Your Collection

A collection is the folder your automated posts go into. It decides which channels your posts publish to, when they go out, and how your content keeps flowing over time. Setting it up well is what makes your Medium posts appear on the right platforms at the right times.

If you turned on Create a new collection for this automation during setup, Nuelink made a fresh collection for you. Open it from Collections in the left sidebar, then set up these options:

1. Collection name. Give your collection a clear name (like "Medium Articles") so it's easy to find later.

2. Default channels. Choose which connected social accounts this collection posts to. Every article this automation brings in will go out to these channels.

3. Time slots (posting schedule). Set the days and times your posts go out. Nuelink adds each new article to the queue and publishes it in the next open slot.

4. Queue controls. Manage the flow of your scheduled posts. You can pause the queue to hold posts, resume it to start again, and shuffle it to mix up the order.

5. Evergreen recycling. Turn this on to automatically re-share your top-performing posts, so your best content keeps getting seen without any extra work.

6. Save your changes. From now on, every article this automation brings in follows this collection's channels, schedule, and settings.

If you'd rather use a collection you already set up, turn off Create a new collection for this automation during setup and pick your existing one from the list; it keeps the channels, time slots, and other settings you've already chosen.

FAQs

Will my old Medium articles get posted too? 

By default, Nuelink imports both your existing articles and any new ones you publish. To import only new articles, turn off Import existing Medium posts as well as the future ones.

How many past articles can I import? 

You can set the Number of Posts to Import to any value between 1 and 10.

How soon will a new Medium article get posted? 

Nuelink checks your blog based on the Check frequency setting (every 24 hours by default). If you turn on Publish Immediately, your latest post goes out right away, and the rest are queued.

Can I review posts before they go out? 

Yes. Turn on Mark the posts as draft for later review, and every imported post is saved as a draft for you to approve first.

Do I have to make a new collection? 

No. Creating a new collection for this automation is on by default, but you can turn it off and choose an existing collection instead.

Troubleshooting

My Medium articles aren't showing up in Nuelink. 

Double-check that you pasted the correct Medium Link during setup. Nuelink checks for new posts based on your Check frequency, so give it up to a day before the first articles appear.

Posts are being created but not published. 

Make sure your collection has at least one connected social channel and that your queue isn't paused. Go to your collection, check the connected channels, and resume the queue if needed.

I only want new articles, but old ones were imported. 

Edit the automation, turn off Import existing Medium posts as well as the future ones, then remove any older imported posts you don't want to share.

My links look messy with tracking codes. 

Open Advanced Options and turn on Auto-clean links to strip UTM and tracking parameters from your {{link}} shortcode.
