How to Set Up Tumblr Automation to Auto-Post to your Social Media

This guide shows you how to automatically share your Tumblr blog posts to your other social media channels using Nuelink. Once it's set up, every new Tumblr post can be turned into a social post for you, no copying and pasting needed.

Note: To follow this guide, you'll need a Nuelink account with the social channels connected where you want your Tumblr posts to go, plus the link to your Tumblr blog.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Go to Automations in the left sidebar. Click Add Automation in the corner.

  1. Find Tumblr in the list and click Add Automation next to it.

  1. Paste your Tumblr blog link into the Tumblr Link field.

  1. Set up your Post Caption. You can write your own caption using variables like {{title}}, {{link}}, {{website}}, {{website_title}}, and {{website_description}}, or turn on Turn on AI captions (Beta) and write a short prompt telling Nuelink how to caption each post.

(Optional) Click Add Fallback Caption to set a backup caption. Nuelink uses it if the AI caption can't be created for a post.

  1. (Optional) Add a Post title. This is used on YouTube, Pinterest, and Facebook videos. You can leave the default {{title}} to reuse your blog post's title.

  1. (Optional) Turn on Auto thread long captions so long captions are split into a thread on channels that support threads.

  1. Choose your post format. Pick Image Post to share each article as an image, or Link Post to share it as a link.

  1. Turn on Import existing Tumblr posts as well as the future ones if you want to share posts you've already published. Leave it off to import only new posts going forward. When it's on, set the Number of Posts to import (any number from 1 to 100).

  1. (Optional) Turn on Mark the posts as draft for later review to check each post before it goes out.

  1. (Optional) Turn on Publish Immediately to publish your newest post as soon as Nuelink finds it, while the rest are added to your queue. Nuelink checks hourly. (Existing imported posts are queued, not published right away.)

  1. (Optional) Turn on Send a follow-up comment to add a comment under each post. Type your comment, then use the Condition setting to choose how long to wait after publishing before it's added.

  1. (Optional) Turn on Use smart conditions to only share certain posts. Choose Include or Exclude, then add keywords. Nuelink checks each post's title against your keywords.

  1. Leave Create a new collection for this automation on to keep these posts in their own collection, or turn it off to add them to an existing collection.

  1. (Optional) Open Advanced Options for extra controls. Auto-clean links strips tracking parameters (like UTM tags) from your links before posting. Use a custom user agent helps Nuelink read sources that block default crawlers.

  1. Click Add Tumblr Automation to finish.

That's it! You're ready to go! Nuelink checks your Tumblr blog for new posts and adds them to your collection automatically.

Set Up Your Collection

When your automation creates a new collection, open it and go to the Settings tab to control how and when your Tumblr posts go out. Every post added to this collection uses these settings by default.

  1. Set the Collection Name and pick a Color code so it's easy to spot in your collections list.

  1. Under Default Social Channels, choose the channels where these posts should go. If you use YouTube, you can also pick a YouTube Playlist to add videos to.

  1. Build your Weekly Schedule. Pick the days, choose a time under Pick Time, and click Add slots. Your posts fill these time slots automatically. You can add as many slots as you like across the week. Check your time zone below the schedule. Click Change if it's not correct.

  1. (Optional) Turn on Recycle (Evergreen) to automatically re-share your posts again after a cooldown. Set the Cooldown (how long to wait before a post goes back in the queue) and a Repeat limit (how many times each post can be reshared, or Forever).

  1. Choose your Queue Behavior, where new posts land in the queue. Pick Top of queue to post sooner, Bottom of queue to post later, or Random to shuffle posts into your schedule.

  1. Click Save Changes at the top to apply your settings.

FAQs

What are AI captions, and should I use them?

AI captions (Beta) let Nuelink write a caption for each post based on a prompt you provide. It's great if you want engaging, ready-to-go captions without writing each one yourself. You can still add a fallback caption in case the AI caption can't be created.

What's the difference between importing existing posts and future posts?

Turn on Import existing Tumblr posts to bring in posts you've already published (up to 100). Leave it off to share only new posts from now on.

How do I share only some of my Tumblr posts?

Turn on Use smart conditions and add keywords. Choose Include to share only posts whose titles contain your keywords, or Exclude to skip posts that contain them.

What does Publish Immediately do?

It publishes your newest Tumblr post right away when Nuelink finds it (Nuelink checks hourly), while the rest of your posts go into your queue. Existing imported posts are always queued rather than published instantly.

What does Auto-clean links do?

It removes tracking parameters, like UTM tags, from your links before they're posted, so your shared links stay clean and tidy.

Troubleshooting

My Tumblr posts aren't showing up.

Double-check that the Tumblr Link is correct and points to your blog. Also check your smart conditions; if you set keywords to Include, only posts whose titles match are shared.

My captions look empty or wrong.

If you're using AI captions, add a fallback caption so there's always a backup. Also make sure any variables like {{title}} are typed exactly, including the double curly braces.

A post I expected didn't publish right away.

Publish Immediately only publishes the newest post instantly; older and existing posts are added to your queue and go out on your schedule. This is expected behavior.

Nuelink can't read my Tumblr blog.

Open Advanced Options and turn on Use a custom user agent. Some sources block default crawlers, and a custom user agent helps Nuelink read them.
