How the Queue Works

Your Queue is where all of your upcoming posts line up, ready to be published. This guide shows you how to control the order your posts go out in using Queue Priority, and how to keep them running automatically with Evergreen.

Note: To follow this guide, you'll need a Nuelink account with at least one collection that already has posts added to it.

How the Queue Works

The Queue displays every upcoming post in a collection, in the exact order it will be published. Each collection has its own Queue, so you can give different types of content their own posting rhythm.

By default, posts go out in the order you add them. But you can change that order any time using a setting called Queue Priority.

The Three Queue Priority Options

Nuelink gives you three ways to organize posts in the Queue. To see how each one works, imagine you've added three posts to a collection in this order:

  • Post 1, added Monday at 12 PM
  • Post 2, added Tuesday at 10 PM
  • Post 3, added Friday at 4 PM

Here's how each option would publish them.

1. First In, First Out

Publish your posts in the order you added them. Your oldest post goes out first, and your newest post goes out last.

  • Post 1, Monday at 12 PM
  • Post 2, Tuesday at 10 PM
  • Post 3, Friday at 4 PM

2. Last In, First Out

The reverse order. Your most recently added post goes out first, and your oldest post goes out last.

  • Post 3, Friday at 4 PM
  • Post 2, Tuesday at 10 PM
  • Post 1, Monday at 12 PM

3. Random

Publish your posts in no fixed order. Every post still goes out; they're just shuffled. This is great for keeping a feed varied and unpredictable.

  • Post 2, Tuesday at 10 PM
  • Post 3, Friday at 4 PM
  • Post 1, Monday at 12 PM

How to Set Your Queue Priority

  1. Open the collection whose Queue you want to organize.

  1. Click the Settings tab.

  1. Scroll down to the Queue Behavior section. Select your preference: First In, First Out, Last In, First Out, or Random.

  1. Save your changes.

That's it, your Queue will now publish posts in the order you chose. You can come back and change this setting whenever you like.

Keep Posts Running with Evergreen

Want your posts to keep going out without ever running dry? Turn on Evergreen.

When a collection is set to Evergreen, its posts recycle automatically. Once a post is published, it goes back into the Queue to be shared again later. Your content keeps looping, following whatever Queue Priority you've set, so your channels never go quiet.

You can also limit how many times a single post is shared. If you add a post and set it to publish twice only, Nuelink shares it twice and then removes it from the Queue.

For example, say you have three evergreen posts looping in a collection. You add a fourth post and set a 2-share limit. That fourth post will go out twice, then it leaves the Queue, and your collection returns to looping the original three posts.

You're all set!

FAQs

Does each collection have its own Queue Priority?

Yes. Queue Priority is a per-collection setting. You can use First In, First Out for one collection and Random for another, whatever fits each type of content.

If I change the Queue Priority, does it reorder posts I've already added?

Yes. The Queue re-sorts itself based on the option you pick, so your existing posts will follow the new order right away.

Can I pause my Queue?

Yes. You can pause and resume your Queue any time. Pausing stops publishing temporarily without losing your posts or their order.

Will Evergreen posts ever stop on their own?

Not unless you tell them to. Evergreen posts loop indefinitely by default. To cap a post, set a share limit, and it will leave the Queue once it reaches that number of shares.

What's the difference between Random and shuffling my Queue?

Setting Queue Priority to Random keeps the order unpredictable every time the Queue cycles. Shuffling is a one-time reorder of the posts currently in your Queue.

Troubleshooting

My posts aren't publishing in the order I expected.

Check the Queue Priority setting in the collection's Settings tab. The publishing order depends on which option is selected, First In, First Out, Last In, First Out, or Random.

A post keeps publishing over and over.

The collection is likely set to Evergreen, which recycles posts automatically. To stop a specific post, give it a share limit, or turn off Evergreen for the whole collection.

An evergreen post disappeared from my Queue.

It probably reached its share limit. Once a post hits the number of shares you set, it leaves the Queue. Add it again or raise the limit to keep it running.

I changed my Queue Priority, but the order still looks the same.

Refresh the page. If the order still doesn't update, go back to the Settings tab and make sure your change was saved.
